Barbara and Dennis Butler
Barb and Dennis Butler have enjoyed 30 years of owning Shoreline Pet Lodge. Shoreline Pet Lodge is located on 6 acres of manicured property. It is on the CT shoreline conveniently located off of I-95. The Butlers reside on the property and feel it is important to check on the pets as needed.
Customers have asked them: how did you get into this business? Barbara’s family had opened one of the first boarding facilities in CT in 1959 and operated it until they sold it in 1977. In 1987, the Butlers wanted to own their own business and bought an existing kennel in Branford. Dennis remodeled the existing kennel. He also was involved with the planning, supervision, and building of our new facility.
Dennis left a position as a property and liability unit claims manager for Metropolitan Insurance. He enjoyed being his own boss, working with animals, being outdoors, and loves gardening and is often seen planting, weeding, and maintaining our beautiful grounds. He also knows every aspect of how the physical plant works and is our go to man on the daily operation of our business.
Barbara is a former high school Marketing Teacher and School Psychologist. She helped during the summer and school vacations. Now retired from education she is able to do what she loves which is to spend more time with the animals.
The Butlers have three adult daughters, Meghan, Courtney, and Colleen who all enjoyed working with your animals during high school and college. The Butlers have a French Bulldog named Theo and a Maine Coon Cat named Marvin.
Chris has worked over 20 years in the pet care industry. He was an assistant manager of a boarding kennel, a vet assistant, and has 10 years experience in a dog daycare. He has been a member of the Shoreline Pet Lodge team for 3 years. He is in command in the day care and the animals love him. He has a gentle approach with animals and he can calm a nervous dog. Chris keeps our daycare clean, organized and a safe place for our dog guests. When Chris is not working he enjoys hiking, baseball and football, music, and classic cars.
Lisa has been at Shoreline Pet Lodge for over a year, and works in all areas. She’s often found greeting customers at the front desk, or caring for our pups in daycare. Prior to to working at Shoreline Pet Lodge, Lisa was a manager for 5 years at a restaurant and a gym. She recently received her Bachelor’s degree in psychology from Central Connecticut State University. Lisa will be attending Southern Connecticut State University in the fall of 2017 to pursue her Master’s of Fine Arts in Creative Writing. Her goal is to finish her novel and teach fiction writing at the college level.
She currently has her own pet photography business, Love-Lee Paws Photography. She has years of pet-sitting experience as well as some grooming. Lisa loves & cares for her pets: Daisy, a Beagle and Santana, a bunny. She hopes to one day own a rescue shelter of her own.
Kelly joined our staff in 2017. She came to us with a well-rounded expertise in all aspects of dog boarding and daycare. She quickly learned the Shoreline Pet Lodge’s high standards of cleanliness and canine care.
You will often see her greeting guests at the front desk, or if she isn’t up front she can be found caring for our hotel guests and entertaining our doggy guests in daycare.
Before joining our team, Kelly had over 2 years of previous experience in dog daycare and boarding. She has a lifelong passion for animals and plans to pursue a career in the Canine Daycare/Boarding business.
When she isn’t at work, Kelly spends time at home with her dog, Mischa.
Our youngest staff member, Daisy, is a well-rounded student in all things animal related. She will be graduating Lyman Hall High School and attending Penn State University to major in Animal Science. Daisy hopes to one day become a Veterinarian and manage her own pet store. She excels in the classroom, retaining a 4.0 GPA throughout high school and is 16th in her class. Daisy is a team member of the Vet Tech Career Development Event held at UCONN, Parliamentarian of Lyman Hall’s FFA Chapter, Captain of the girl’s swim team and President of the National Honor Society. Prior to working at Shoreline Pet Lodge, her summers consisted of volunteering at the Meriden Humane Society where she cared for many newborn and feral cats. At home, Daisy owns two miniature poodles named Kiko and Chavo. You’ll most likely find her walking, bathing and caring for all our furry guests.
